Overview
The Public Safety - Law Enforcement (PS-LE) career pathway affords students the opportunity to gain knowledge and have a firm foundation under the Criminal Justice umbrella of careers. The overview of the program is as follows:
10th grade students explore PS core courses and are introduced to specific career options, such as firefighting, EMS, law enforcement, and other criminal justice careers. Field trips, speakers, employability skills, and career exposure are key elements to help students decide which sub-pathway better fits their interest.
11th grade students choose between Fire Science and Criminal Justice career pathways. Those that choose (PS-LE) will begin to learn skills specific to law enforcement, criminal justice, and corrections such as the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights,Federal, State, and Local Laws, report writing, crime scene investigation, Civil service Employment process, court procedure, prison issues, First Aid and CPR, communications, and the following issues specific to LE: Crime in America, Policing, Adjudication, and Special Issues concerning our Law Enforcement, Legal System, and Corrections.
During the Lab portion of the course students will participate in physical fitness, and learn police skills such as, hand-cuffing, defensive tactics, accident reconstruction, etc.
12th grade students will complete a capstone project through research of the field practitioners in Law Enforcement, Corrections, and our Legal Court System.
College
The link with Sinclair Community College Criminal Justice program is in the form of support and scholarships toward an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or Corrections.
